Beach Camping, Part II

After a hearty breakfast Sunday morning, we set off to explore the tide pools and interesting rock formations south of our campground.

Violet here is digging deeper holes for the sand shrimp or sand crabs. She wasn't as happy about our little morning walk as her friends; she was worried about the water reaching us, though tide was far enough out to not be a big concern.
The multicolored jutting rocks are beautiful!
The children found crabs, sea anemone and shellfish to investigate.

Stace showed Cora and Lucas how to break the soft stones apart in an attempt to make arrowheads. This would have occupied them all day, if we'd had all day.
Alas, by 11 it was time to run back to the camp to pack up for our 12 noon checkout.

On our way home, we lunched together at a great beach cafe south of Santa Barbara, complete with sandy play area. What a great weekend! Staying with good friends was a perfect way to break into camping for us; having a camper next door was especially helpful, with a toilet and kitchenette. We'll definitely do this again! (Hopefully with a blowup mattress - that ground was hard under our blankets and comforters...)
Thanks, Colleen and Rigo!

Great photos! Such a great trip. Our neighbor went camping with their kids and told us about it. Suggestion: rather than air mattresses, go to Walmart and buy camp cots. So much more comfortable! And they don't pop. Not very expensive either. See you soon! Aunt P
