Day In The Life - 2025

7 a.m. - I wake up, have coffee and a bite to eat, get ready to walk. Stace is already at work. Before leaving to walk, I make sure Violet is awake. 

Cora has her late day, so she doesn't need to wake up early. Every other day, she has a full day of classes (three long ones), and on the other days, she goes in at lunch time for her stagecraft class.

8:30 a.m. - I meet up with Tiffany and Melissa to walk the paseos.

9:30 - I come home and Winston and Evie are trying to get a huge cockroach that is on our porch, near the front door.


935 - Violet is concerned. "Can you get rid of it? Don't let him eat it, there's probably a parasite in it!"

9:40 -  I talk to Melanie, while I clean up my room. Violet is working on school assignments.

10 - I read my daily Bible devotion, wearing my new sheepskin slippers I got for Mother's Day.

10:10 - Winston gets the roach, and brings it up through the opening in the screen door!  No! I pick him up and carry him (and it, in his mouth) out front. THE ROACH FALLS INTO MY SLIPPER. Ugh.

10:15 - Violet and I leave for school. I drop her off as brunch is underway. I then head to Ralphs to do some grocery shopping. 

I've found that the Ralphs in Stevenson Ranch has the best markdown deals. I try to hit up the store when I can, and circle the perimeter (fresh produce, dairy and meat) and look for markdowns. 

11:20 - I get some great deals, but notice that one of the weekly specials on Chobani yogurt and creamer didn't come off. After talking to the cashier, we figured out that I chose the one flavor of creamer that wasn't included in the sale. Huh? They overrode the system to give me the deal.

11:40 - I get home, put the groceries away and make Cora some brunch. She is working on registering for a college acting class for the fall.

12:15 - Cora leaves for school, driving herself. I tidy up the house.

1 - I leave for Aldi to pick up a couple of things I didn't get at Ralphs. 

1:19 - I pick up Violet - she tells me about an odd online PE test she took that morning, with questions regarding the Munich bombing and the Jews and Palestinians.

1:25 - We get home. Winston is eating Cora's leftovers like a little dog. Violet greets him with enthusiasm. "Tiny! He's so tiny!"

1:45 - Violet makes herself a peanut butter sandwich, with homemade peanut butter, homemade bread and homemade nutella (put in an old jam jar).

1:50 - The grocery bags are by the door, ready to go back in the trunk, when I notice little guy making himself comfortable. Big guy is ALWAYS comfortable.

Violet works on schoolwork.

3:30 - Cora is home, after stopping at Circle K for a big, cheap soda - a new not-great habit she's developed since driving. She spots slightly chubby Evie in a weird position and states, "She can't be uncomfortable with that level of fat on her body!"

4 - The girls play video games and Vi draws on her iPad, while I thoroughly clean the cat water fountain, do my 10-minute strength workout, clean the recycling bin outside, read the newspaper, sweep the tile floors, and make the girls vacuum the living room rugs

5  - I start dinner, which will be a fancy salad. I hard boil eggs, clean the lettuce, chop tomatoes, and heat up some cooked chicken.

5:50  - Stace comes home and settles into his after-work routine: watching football highlights with a cup of tea.

6:30 - We eat dinner and chat about our days.

7 - I clean up the kitchen, and Stace brings in our new blinds for the playroom, to prepare to install them. The cats help.

8:15 - Girls are playing video games, while Stace sits outside prepping his homegrown onion harvest for pickling. He's excited to have home-picked onions. Meanwhile, I get my oatmeal cake ready to bake.

9:30 - Oatmeal cake is done! I get coffee prepped for the morning, get me and Cora our nightly supplements and get ready for bed. Stace is watching YouTube shorts and a Paul Whitewick show on English history.

Another normal day done! 

I know this wasn't an exciting day. 

But when I look back at these Day in the Life posts over the past 18 years, they bring back such strong memories. And even though the girls are so grown up now, I know the future is coming when I'll look back even at this time period, with them both still at home and a presence in our daily lives, with fondness. 

So, that is why I'm seeking to remember some of these mundane details, of life in May 2025 with two teens, three cats and a fabulous husband.

Day in the Life - Spring 2024

 It's been a few years since I've attempted a "Day in the Life" post, but with this year being *interesting* with Violet's schedule, and knowing Cora's high school life will be over before we know it, I thought I should document our "normal life" here for posterity.

5 a.m.: Sebastian thinks I should wake up, walking on me, purring, pawing at my face and licking my cheek. Maybe I didn't feed him enough last night before bed? He eventually desists.

5:20: I hear cat noises, and it sounds like Seb is annoyed at Evie. I ask Stace if he's going to get up, as his alarm goes off at 5:30 and he always give Seb a bit of food when he gets up.

6: Stace says goodbye with a kiss, and says, “It would be cool to stay home and hang out with you today. But it’s also cool to go to a good job.” Amen!

Seb is now at my feet, and both kittens are up purring by my chest. I guess I’m awake for the day? I finally doze off again.

7:15: I can sleep in today because I only need to get Vi to school this morning. I feed the kittens dry food and close them in Vi’s room. I get my coffee, go outside with Seb to get some early morning sunlight, and then return to make sure Vi is getting ready. I warm up a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin for Violet's breakfast.

7:55: As we leave for school, Vi exclaims about Winston, “He’s on the table RIGHT NOW."

8:15 I'm back home. I make more coffee, and read my Bible devotion in the backyard. It's a quiet morning, kind of.

We currently have bird wars, with the crow (on our wall here) being attacked and shouted at by a mockingbird.

I feed the kittens their wet food, feeding Evie in Vi's room and Winston in the hall, so he doesn't steal her food.

9: I leave to get Violet. She only goes to yearbook class in the morning, and then she goes to science class later in the day. She doesn't come out for a half hour, because she remembers that Wednesdays I'm normally late to get her because I'm taking Cora to school for a 9:30 Late Start Wednesday beginning. But today, Cora's schedule is even later, so I was on time to pick her up, but I forgot to let Violet know. Sigh. Students at Vi's school aren't allowed to have their phones out, which generally is good, but I wish I could have contacted her in this case.

9:35: Vi and I get back home. Cora is up - she has a weird school schedule because of state testing, which she isn't doing, so she starts at 10:30. I make her a breakfast taco - bacon, scrambled eggs and cheese in a corn tortilla, and put together her lunch. The eggs are from Colleen and Rigo's chickens - aren't they gorgeous?

10:15: Cora and I leave for her high school. One nice thing with the testing schedule is the reduced traffic, since we're not on the road with the junior high across the street starting, too.

10:26: I drop her off at my preferred spot, on a side street just before the high school, so I can zip back out onto the road. Taking her into the school parking lot adds a lot of time in traffic, time I don't have today because I'm off to an appointment.

10:45: Since I had a painful calcium buildup on my shoulder, I was approved for physical therapy. My shoulder no longer hurts, but I figured it would be good to see what stretches and exercises I can learn. I get checked in to SCOI PT, and Svetlana the therapist assesses my mobility and shows me several stretches to work on. I make a follow-up appointment for two weeks later, and we agree that she would be releasing me from care then.

11:40: I head to Trader Joe's, not too far from SCOI, to get a few groceries.

12: Back home, Violet is ready for me to take her back to the junior high for her to see her friends at lunch and then have science class.

First, though, she needs to tell me about Winston, and how he had bacon grease on his paws from jumping on the kitchen counter and checking out the grease jar.

12:15: Violet is back at school, and I have an hour or so to get some blogging and tidying done at home, including cleaning up the kitchen counters. Ahem. I put away the groceries and realize one of the cans of hard cider I'd bought was somehow pierced, and had leaked all over the cardboard box and grocery bag.

1:45: I pick up Violet and bring her home. 

2:10: Violet works on her school work at the dining room table and I make her a sourdough grilled cheese sandwich. She has algebra, English and history classes at home through an online platform. I do some ironing and clean my room.

3: Violet is done with her schoolwork. She puts away her clothes and hangs out with cats.

3:30-4:30: I chop a bunch of veggies to prepare for dinner, while Violet plays her video games in her room.

4:30-5: I have an online zoom board meeting with the Parent Advisory Council for Cora's school. I'm the vice president. We discuss the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week and how the PAC is going to organize a lunch for the teachers and staff.  

Violet comes out after my meeting and tells me, "Winston looks funny."

"What’s he doing?"

"He’s small," is her answer. A week ago, she said something similar, that Winston looked sad, because he's so small. He does have pretty short legs for a 7-month-old male cat. But he has so much personality, I wouldn't agree that he's sad about it.

5:15: I finish up dinner and Stace comes home. We're having a meal from his healthy living plan that we really enjoyed a month ago, with ground turkey, veggies, and Asian seasonings. We have one lettuce plant outside that provides wraps for us, while Vi makes some white rice for her and Cora.

6:45: Stace and Violet leave to take Vi to youth group, while I leave to get Cora from school. Chicago rehearsals finish at 7 this week, as they are about a week from opening night. I bring her dinner in the car, as we're off to her final vocal lesson before the show opens. We basically never have Cora eating in the car on the way to things, so this is atypical.

7: Cora comes out and we stop at Circle K to get Cora a drink.

7:15: Cora has her vocal lesson with Carla, who she's been seeing since last June. Carla is an amazing teacher, and she's helped her SO much with increasing her range and improving her singing skills. They touch up the songs Cora will be singing as Velma in Chicago.

8: Cora and I go home. It's been a long day for her, despite the late start.

8:10: Ow!! Winston is grabbing Cora’s feet. He loves playing with our feet, and especially with Cora's.

8:20: I leave to get Violet from the church. Colleen and I chat near her car while we wait for the girls to come out. The group has a Bible lesson most weeks, but once a month they have Game Night. That was this night, and the kids played laser tag together.

8:40: They come out happy. "It was fun," Vi said. With a complicated handshake routine and laughter, they say goodbye.

9: We're back home and Violet gets in the shower. Cora has already showered while I was gone with Violet.

Cora is sitting in the playroom at her computer, watching videos and coloring in her Critical Role coloring book.

10: Stace and I start heading to bed, and he and Violet work on some Wordle games in our bed.

10:15: Violet goes to bed, and Cora is in bed not too long after. Sometimes she stays up "too late," but she's 17, and I'm not policing bedtimes.

There you have it, a "normal"ish day in 2024, in our family with a 17-year-old and almost 14-year-old.

Day in the Life

How about a Day in the Life, with Cora about to leave elementary school, and Violet in her last weeks of third grade?
6:50 a.m. - I wake Cora up, and then go to Violet's room to do the same. I give Vi her thyroid medicine...and then go back to make sure Cora's up... and then return to Violet's room to get her out of bed.
While the girls get up and dressed, I shower and dress too.
7:20 - The girls were having their breakfast while watching Fortnite videos when I come back out to make their lunches.
7:25 - Time for the girls to brush teeth, and then get their shoes on and backpacks together.

7:43 a.m. - The girls are ready to go, and Violet has been riding her bike with Cora to school for the past week. Violet loves riding her bike with her sister, and asks if she can do it every day.

7:50 - I walk to school, so that I can walk with my girlfriends. I usually like watching the girls walk from Morning Ceremony to their classrooms, but Cora's class is now setting up chairs for graduation practice instead of taking part in Morning Ceremony.

8:40 - After walking with my girlfriends, we come back to see the sixth-graders practicing for graduation.

Cora and Jake are in the white circle, practicing walking in. The teachers selected the order of who walked in together, and perhaps they know that Cora and Jake are good friends. They are the last pair to walk in, so every sixth-grader is facing forward, watching. Walking "down the aisle" together has gotten them quite a bit of teasing.

8:55 - Christina drives me back home, and we chat for a bit in her car before she heads to work. Then, it's tidying, getting ready for the day, handling insurance phone calls, and heading to an orthodontist appointment. When I get home at 11:30, I tackle laundry, blogging and lunch.

2:45 - Cora and Violet burst in after riding home. They have a snack, and do their homework and chores. Snack today consists of homemade vanilla bean frappuccinos - I've found a copycat recipe online that's quite yummy - and apple slices.

3:00 - Cora begins playing Fortnite with Jake. They play together most days, talking through their headsets. Violet watches for a bit, and then goes to play with her Lego dragons in the playroom. She is creating a new dragon out of bits of Lego.

3:20 - We leave for a makeup salon, where Cora has a 3:30 eyebrow appointment. This is a big week coming up - GATE Musical is Wednesday, and promotion/graduation the following Wednesday. Since Cora hasn't had her brows done since January, we agreed this was a good time to get it done.
Violet, just visible in the mirror, brings her homework and her kindle to occupy herself.

4:20 - My gorgeous girl, after Amariz, the makeup and brow stylist, finishes with her. A bit of powder, tiny amount of blush and eye shadow, and lip gloss - wow!

4:40 - Back home, Cora jumps back onto Fortnite with Jake, and they discuss attending a family picnic that evening at the school for GATE families. Charlie is in GATE, and so their family would be going.

5:10 - Stace comes home, and he isn't interested in a GATE picnic. Neither is Violet. Stace and I have planned to attend the school district's annual Art Show, which goes until 8 p.m. Neither girl wants to go to the Art Show. Lots of complaining.

6 - Cora convinces me to take her to school to the GATE picnic, so she can hang out with Jake and Char. We have a quick dinner there, while Violet and Stace have the same at home.

7 - Cora and I head back home and pick up Stace and Violet, and off we go to the Art Show. Stace and I are the only ones interested in attending. But it's a sweet event, and it's Cora's last one, and by golly, we're going.

7:20 - We've found Violet's artwork. It's a city collage. You can see by her bright smile how happy she is to have found it.

We never find Cora's art - she said she herself turned in her class's offerings to the front office, so we're not sure why no art from her class is on display.

7:50 - The event featured food trucks, so we reward the girls for their "patience" with Kona Ice.

8 p.m. - As the event winds down, Stace and I get an ice cream to share. We then drive home via old Newhall, showing the girls where we used to live.

8:20 - Cora has a shower, and Violet gets ready for bed.
Stace comes into our room, stating, "I just thought of a really good idea. What if we bought a really old van,
and turned it into a camper."
Me: "Why do all of your "really good ideas" start with, "What if we bought a really old...?"

9:00 - We say good-night to the girls, who remain awake past 9:30.

And there it is - A Day in the Life, 6th and 3rd Grade Style.

A Day in the Life

It's time for that ever-popular recurring feature, A Day in the Life, this time featuring an 11-year-old fifth-grader an an 8-year-old second-grader.

5:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5: Stacey's alarm goes off, and he loudly states that he doesn't want to get up yet. Thanks, Dear. Now I'm up for the day, too... He gets up and ready for his bike ride to work.

6:10: I'm enjoying one of the best parts of my day - cuddles with my kitty, my coffee, and my Bible.
6:45: I wake Violet up enough give her her chewable thyroid medication, wake Cora up, and then get in the shower.
7:10: I'm dressed and so is Violet, who's making her bagel. But Cora fell back asleep - time for her to get up quick and scramble to make up the time she's lost.
We get the lunches packed, teeth brushed, shoes on, and by 7:38, Cora is off on her own bike ride. She has loved riding to school this year.
But wait! Violet is sitting on the floor of her room, socks in hand, reading. And she has not brushed her teeth! Arrrgh!
7:45: We are now too late to walk to school - to the car we go. This year, though I love walking to school, we've driven as often as we've walked.
It is what it is.

 7:55: Violet's at the gate, ready to go in, but not interested in having her photo taken. This kind of expression has been too common lately with our sweet girl. Hopefully the phase will end soon.
After the kids are in the gates, I take a walk with my friends.

By 9 a.m., I'm back home. It's time for the morning tidy-up, some breakfast, some laundry, some vacuuming, some blogging, some phone calls and some dinner prep. I catch up with my sister and JT while doing all of the above. We'll have a busy afternoon, so I get veggies and corned beef in the crockpot.

There are also phone calls, emails and texts for a school project I took on. I love being the mom who's available to do such things. In addition, there's a big state election today, so I do some final research and then head to my polling place to vote.
12:15: I'm back home from voting, and get some leftover pizza and salad for lunch. I catch up on the phone with my mom, who I haven't talked with for a week. I get the laundry hung out, and put in another load.
2:30: I leave for school to pick up Violet. Once I get her, we chat with my friend Christina a bit and then head home to grab Cora. Toys R Us is closing, the whole store is on sale, and the girls have several upcoming birthday parties to attend, so we're off to Stevenson Ranch.
4:00: The outing is successful - both girls got a new toy that should be fun for summer, and we got a couple of gifts. Cora's new toy is a Minecraft playset designed for creating stop-action movies with a cell phone.
4:30: We're home, and Cora is loving the new Minecraft toy. She gets it out immediately. Lucky for her, she has very little homework, as school is winding down for the year. Violet works on her math homework in the playroom. Meanwhile, I get the cabbage chopped and in the crock pot, and Stace comes home.
4:50: Cora spends 20 minutes on her PS4, playing Fortnite with a couple of friends via the Internet and a headset.
5:20: Dinner time! Stace helps Violet with the toy she got at Toys R Us - a craft kit with tiny beads that stick together with water.
Cora loves corned beef and cabbage, and she finishes quickly, and then eats Violet's portion of meat.
Stace sees this and says to Violet, "What, are you a vegan?"
"Yeah," she answers. "I love veggies."
6: We tidy away dinner and get ready to leave. It's the annual Newhall School District Art Show, and I know the girls both entered pieces to display.
6:20: On our drive to Newhall Elementary School, which is hosting the art show, Violet declares that she'd like to try wrestling.
"Violet, of all the sports, that is not one I'd pick for you," I tell her.
"Then I'll do tackle football," she says, smiling.
At the school, we meet up and walk in with our friends Yass and Kelly, and their boys Jake and Charlie.

The kids run around the halls together, looking for their art. Cora's picture of three colorful pots is above her head backed by orange paper. Jake was being too funny for her to take a good photo for me, though.

We run into several people we know, including a teacher we know through his theater exploits with Melanie. Turns out he was a substitute teacher in Cora's class today, while the 5th graders watched the health video on puberty.

Our school doesn't have any male teachers, so he came in for the lesson for all the 5th grade boys. The girls all went out to another classroom and watched the girls' video. Cora wasn't pleased about watching the video. Puberty is a sore subject for her.

Anyway, the Art Show was a success, as we found the kids' artwork and had fun chatting with our friends.

7:25: It's Tuesday, that means it's Ice Cream Night. Our Baskin Robbins might be shut, but Thrifty ice cream is still available at Rite Aid. Perhaps we have a new tradition?

 8: Back home, it's time for jammies, brushing teeth, and medicine.
8:30: Violet gets her injection, and Stace reads some Diary of a Wimpy Kid with her (and Spencer).

8:40: Cora is having some more fun with her stop-motion filmmaking.

By 9, Stace is done reading, and Cora's in her bed, reading. I say goodnight to them both.
By 9:30, the girls are settled in, Stace is relaxing on the couch, and I'm relaxing, too.
It was a nice, "normal" day, in a calm season of life without sports or extracurricular activities.
On to summer!

Day in the Life

How about a summer-style Day in the Life? Now that both girls are in school full-day, the school days don't seem quite so interesting to cover in this format...

6 a.m., Friday, June 30: Stace is up and ready for work, and says hello to Violet, who for some reason, is wide awake. This being our second full week of break, both girls had been sleeping until 8 most days.

Violet comes to see me once Stace has left, but I tell her I'm still sleeping. She leaves quietly.
7:45 - I emerge to find Violet in the playroom, behind a couch. She's been playing quietly for a long time; what a good girl!
AND, I find a bowl of Hershey kisses, which she apparently got by dragging the swivel chair to the highest shelf in the pantry. That wasn't quite so good, Violet...

8 a.m. I get my coffee and settle on the couch; Violet joins me with a book of her own. I hear Cora awake and getting ready.

8:15 - Cora is up and dressed, has made her bed, and is happily reading books from our trip to the library Thursday. Cora is happiest when she is productive, or when she has a big stack of books to tackle. (Or when she's playing on her Kindle, but I prefer to think of her as a reader than a gamer!)

8:30 - Violet prepares her bagel for breakfast, while Cora has Cheerios, her usual. Cora is watching Stampy, Squid and Ash Minecraft videos on Youtube while she eats.

I instruct Violet to get dressed and ready while I shower. It's the last day of Vacation Bible School at Valencia Methodist, and it starts at 9.

9 a.m. - Violet is ready to run into the sanctuary and join her group, which includes her buddies Liana, Melanie and Norah. Violet loves VBS - the friends, the crafts, the singing, the snacks.

9:15 - This is the second year that Cora didn't want to participate. We take advantage of the Violet-free hours to spend some mommy-big-girl time together.

On Friday, we walk down to Granary Square to get a prescription at CVS, check out the Hallmark Itty Bitties, and stop quickly into Ralphs.

10:15 - Cora and I are back home. She's back in her room with a book, while I tidy up the from the morning.

11 - Cora and I head out again to run a couple of more errands. Gotta get those done while I'm down a kid!

In the car, Cora is feeling sick, so she reads aloud from one of my old Calvin and Hobbes books to distract herself. Both girls love Calvin and Hobbes; oftentimes I look behind when I'm driving, and both are reading comics.

11:15 - A week or so ago, my parents took Cora out to As You Wish pottery, where she chose to paint a bank shaped like a stack of owls. It was ready for pickup, and Cora's face lit up when she unveiled the finished product. It came out so cute!

We then go to the credit union to pay in a check for the school foundation, for which I'm the treasurer.

11:45 - Cora and I are back home, getting ready for the family lunch and water play day at VBS. It's a tradition for the final day, with a pizza-and-fruit lunch and giant water slides for the kids. I get the bathing suits, sunscreen and towels together, and Cora and I get going.

12 - Cora and I sit in the sanctuary with all the kids and families, watching the children sing the VBS songs.
12:20 - We line up for lunch, and make a picnic spot on the edge of the grass.

12:45 - After Violet and I eat (Cora's not feeling great), Violet runs off to play. She loves this contraption, with a water pump that sends a rubber ducky down into the basin.

12:50  - Violet moves over to the giant slip and slide. She waits in line, gets sprayed by the teen helpers with a soapy solution, and then takes off. Over. And Over. And Over.
It's great seeing her joy.

Meanwhile, Cora is reading. This is the first VBS year that she hasn't also had a ball taking part in all the water fun. Her tummy doesn't feel great, and a piece of watermelon is all she wants to eat.

1:15 - My friends Christina, Colleen and Liz sit nearby, so we chat while the kids have fun (or read).

1:45 - Cora and Violet play handball against the church wall with a beach ball, while I pack up our things.

2 - Time to go home and rest a bit before our next activity.

2:15 - I get a bath started for Violet; Cora plays on her Kindle. I work on the blog.

3 - Cora's now hungry, so she makes herself some pasta for a snack.

3:30 - Time for Violet to get out of the bath and get ready for our friend Chris's birthday party.

She dries off and she chooses a dress to wear. A dress, to a party at a trampoline-jumping place. OK! Cora wears basketball shorts and a T-shirt - these girls come from the opposite end of the girl spectrum.

3:35 - I ask Violet to put panty covers on, and she agrees, but when I check a few minutes later she hasn't moved, and is reading instead. I tell her she's lost another ticket - the girls start each day with three, and choosing to not obey costs them one. If they lose all three, their day ends early. She lost one earlier in the day, too.

3:45 - We need to leave for Chris's party, and I ask the girls to get their shoes on. Five minutes later, Violet is reading still. There's the third ticket. I can't leave her home from the party, so her consequence is delayed.

4 - We get checked into the party at Sky High Sports, and the girls join the group in the dodgeball court.

5 - It's time for the pizza and cake! Stace has arrived, and he and I sit with Toni, Jeremy and a baseball friend of theirs for dinner.

5:20 - The children are finished with pizza, so half of them attempt to race back down to the trampolines. They're stopped, so that we can do the singing and cupcakes.

As soon as the song's finished, most the kids take off, but Violet sticks around to eat her cupcake.

6 p.m. - Chris's partygoers are encouraged to come back upstairs for a photo. This also signifies that the party is officially over. He opens his gifts, and we chat some more.

6:30 - Time to head home.

6:45 - I stop at Bevmo on the way home, on the hunt for a citrus margarita mix Stace and I enjoyed recently. We couldn't find it, so we purchased a tangerine rum I thought would mix well into juice.

6:50 - "Who's Captain Morgan," Violet asks Cora, as the two horse around. "I dunno," Cora replies.
Thankfully we manage to buy our bottle without the girls breaking anything, and a friendly cashier thinks they're cute, rather than annoying.

7:15 - Back home, I instruct Violet to get ready for bed, with the early bedtime a consequence for her three lost tickets. Violet is not happy with this decision.

7:30 - Violet has changed and is getting her teeth brushed. Cora is looking at old blog posts, from her toddlerhood. She especially loves the old videos on the blog.

7:45 - Violet is in her bed, lights out, but she makes sure we know she's not tired.

8 - I see Violet's light on, and she's sitting in her reading corner. I turn off the light.
8:30 - I give Cora a kiss goodnight, and she's in bed, reading.
8:40 - Stace asks me what time it is, and I answer, "8:40." Violet shouts from her room, "8:44," as her clock is set a few minutes fast. Though I love our one-story house, there are times I can see the advantage to the bedrooms being further from the living area.
9 - Violet comes out and asks to get a kitty. She finds Spencer and carries him back to her room.
9:15 - Violet's asleep, and Cora's not long behind her. And there we are - a lovely day of summer break, complete.
