We are staying home this Christmas, and Nan and Pop are coming to our house just after the big day for a two-week holiday.

Since we are home, and the girls are old enough to grasp the difference between a real tree and our normal artificial one, we surprised them with their first tree-shopping experience.

We went to a real Christmas tree lot Saturday, the type that springs up on empty parking lots this time of year, with fresher trees than you find at Home Depot and Lowes.

Cora and Stace thought this monster would work well - in our yard, as it would take up the entire living room.

Violet, meanwhile, was drawn to this cute lil' thing, just like herself.

We compromised on this lovely six-footer, which we all deemed perfect.

It was a great shopping experience, and the cold, cloudy weather added to the atmosphere.
